In Chipata Compound of Kitwe, NWSC undertook the WaterWorx Project funded by the Dutch Government, conceptualized to assist 3rd World countries meet the Millennium Sustainable
development goals in terms of water and sanitation.
The funding was to the amount of 1.2m Euros, towards thematic areas such as water and sanitation, NRW, Billing and Collection, Human Resources and improvement in GIS system.
The 182,000 Euros dedicated to water and sanitation improvement is being used for the construction of 820 VIP toilets in
Chipata Compound; as well as installation of 1050 household connections in the area.
In addition to water and sanitation improvement, NWSC is also engaging adolescent girls in Menstrual Health and Hygiene,
and 100 girls in the project area have so far been trained.
Ipusukilo Faecal Sludge Management
Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company has continued to empower youths, women and men in per- urban communities by engaging them in feacal
sludge management to promote clean and heathy communities.
Nkana Water Low Income Community Support Unit has engaged locals in Ipusukilo Compound in Kitwe who are emptying pit latrines that are full.
Nkana Water trained selected members of the community who were willing to take part in the exercise to allow its safe end use (waste-to-energy
and waste-to-compost) or disposal as part of the solid waste stream management.
